Product Manger Network


Overall Job Purpose


The Product Manager, Core Network Services (CNS) is a critical role in the business and is part of the Product Team reporting into the Director of Business Development. The individual is responsible for managing the life-cycle of company's core network products with a focus on Ethernet and data centre interconnection services.


The candidate will be the end-to-end product and success owner whilst focussing on the performance of the products. They will be required to take control of the product(s) in a competitive marketplace and drive success through business management whilst closely collaborating with the company's community, specifically Engineering, Sales, Finance, Customer Service and Marketing.


Importantly, the candidate will bring a commercial leader approach with experience in market analysis and strategy, managing the financial elements including business objective setting, cost management, pricing and profitability to position for success. Reporting on status, progress and success will be an important part of the candidate’s leadership skill set.


The candidate will be a collaborator, bringing together the community that enables the product and its success to deliver and drive the achievement of the goals and objectives.


They will have the ability to effectively consolidate both their own requirements and those of multiple stakeholder groups to define and drive product evolution and improvement plans to drive future success.


The candidate will also be experienced in and will welcome the opportunity to build technical and business partnerships / alliances that enhance the market-relevance, performance and profitability of the product(s).


The candidate will have a good knowledge of networking, particularly Ethernet services combined with an understanding of the importance of functions such as Software Defined Networking and portals to their product(s).


The candidate should have a natural analytical way of thinking and will be familiar with a business case and roadmap planning and improvement environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Define a product strategy, plan and roadmap for the Core Network Services portfolio in partnership with the Product enablement community, achieving buy-in from all members and leadership
  • Establish a specific plan and target set for maintaining PoP profitability across company's global network
  • Deliver on all set objectives and metrics including profitability
  • Define and implement an interworking practice with Finance and other areas such as Engineering, Solution Design, IS, Program Management and the Services team to ensure delivery of objectives, strategy, financial objectives and efficiencies
  • Work closely with Marketing and Sales to identify market drivers and needs related to target customers, structuring the Products to meet their expectations and targets along with internal business success targets
  • Align with the rest of the Product Management team to support integration of company's Core Network Services with other products including cloud networking, SD-WAN, Security, Access to deliver end-to-end
  • Manage networking elements for performance and profitability including functional examples such as:
  • Analyse and assess PoP profitability to enable PoP management future strategy
  • Work with capacity management to establish oversubscription levels and forecasting capacity upgrades/downgrades
  • Running operational analysis reviews for performance improvement and efficiencies
  • Benchmark network cost against competitors and work with the technology and carrier relations team to reduce costs in line with the market
  • Develop and keep cost models up to date (with support from Finance), working with engineering and capacity management to understand cost allocations
  • Provide specific product performance analysis per network segment to assist in defining strategy for the Core Network Products

Job Requirements


  • Experience in setting and leading the product strategy, within a telecommunications organisation
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in managing relevant products across telecommunication-related services
  • Experience in financial management of products and services – with strong background in business analytics
  • Good knowledge (in terms of market, technical and product features) on WAN networking related services, including Ethernet and access services
  • Experience in effective partnership management on carrier partner and key vendors
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization
  • High energy and strong relationship building
  • Effective communicator – written and oral
  • Natural collaborator
  • Degree in Business, Maths, Finance or other appropriate degree or qualification
  • Ability and experience of working in agile, ‘hands on’ challenger environments.
  • Experience in globally distributed businesses where colleagues, supporters and approvers are in other time zones is desirable.
